Our Mission

Eastgate is committed to promoting cooperative regional efforts in the planning, programming, and implementation of public sector activities. Eastgate serves as a regional forum to discuss issues of mutual interest and concern, and to develop recommendations and plans to address those issues. All of this in hopes of leading to a common goal of improving the quality of life for the residents of the Mahoning Valley.

The Eastgate Development and Transportation Agency was created in 1973 as the result of combining the then Council of Governments with the Mahoning and Trumbull Comprehensive Transportation Study. EDATA, as the agency became known, was established as a regional Council of Governments with members in Ashtabula, Trumbull, Mahoning, and Columbiana Counties. The agency name reflected the primary role of the agency, transportation and economic development.

TODAY ~ The Eastgate Regional Council of Governments

As the agency has grown, our role and identity has also changed. While we have become more than just a transportation and development planning agency, we have maintained our role as the regional voice of government. The Eastgate Regional Council of Governments is a voluntary association of local governments in northeast Ohio. Our members include Mahoning County, Trumbull County, and all cities, villages, and townships in the counties. Various services to Ashtabula County are provided through a contract with the Ashtabula County Commissioners. Although our members are unique, they share many common interests. Eastgate brings them together to create a unified voice in areas such as transportation, water and air quality, land use planning, and local infrastructure projects.
