The EASTGATE Rideshare program serves Mahoning, Trumbull and Ashtabula Counties; located in Northeastern Ohio. According to the 2000 Ohio Census of Population and Housing, the three counties have a combined total population of approximately 585,399 and a combined total active labor force of 273,909. The largest city in Mahoning County is Youngstown, with a 2000 total population of 82,026. In Trumbull County, the largest city is Warren with a total 2000 population of 46,832. In Ashtabula County, the largest city is Ashtabula with a 2000 total population of 20,962.
Also according to the census, the average travel-to-work time for commuters in Mahoning County is 21.5 minutes; in Trumbull County 21.0 minutes; and in Ashtabula County 23.9 minutes. Approximately 7.7% of the active labor force in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties and 11.6% in Ashtabula County carpool to work on a regular basis.
