Final Convening of Invest Health

Dec 12, 2017

Invest Health is an initiative that brings together diverse leaders from mid-sized U.S. cities across the nation to develop new strategies for increasing and leveraging private and public investments to accelerate improvements in neighborhoods facing the biggest barriers to better health. The program is a collaboration between the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Reinvestment Fund. The initiative was developed to provide an opportunity for mid-sized cities to transform the way local leaders work together to create solution-driven and diverse partnerships. These partnerships emphasize making changes in low-incoming neighborhoods to improve resident health and well-being.

Eastgate was honored to be a part of this initiative with the City of Youngstown team, composed of representatives from the City of Youngstown’s Health District, Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley, Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation, and Youngstown State University. Together, with numerous community partners the Youngstown Team devised action plans around food access, health education in the Youngstown City School District, lead abatement, and parks and recreation. The initiatives have resulted in neighborhood support through funding from the William Swanston Charitable Fund and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

At the final convening in New Orleans, participants learned about sustaining leadership during multi-sector approaches, addressing health equity through shared metrics, and capital project budgeting. The Youngstown team will continue to work together to address health disparities in the community.
