Eastgate Hosts 2019 Annual Meeting

Apr 01, 2019

On Thursday March 28th, Eastgate held their 2019 Annual Meeting at Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown. With over 320 people in attendance, the agency’s Executive Director, Jim Kinnick, gave an overview of the past year’s accomplishments and the major initiatives moving forward. Jim called special attention to the successful BUILD Grant, the Mahoning River Dam Removals, the Trumbull 46/82 Interchange, and Western Reserve Road projects that represent over $75 million of additional investment into our region in 2018. Closing his presentation, Jim presented 2 challenges to the leaders in the room. First, to get out and talk about the good things occurring in the region and second, to involve young people in the decision-making process at your organizations.

Continuing with the theme of ‘Region of Opportunity’, Tim Mayle, the Director of Findlay-Hancock Economic Development, shared the City of Findlay’s push to revitalize their main street and build a strong and stable local economy by focusing on communication and branding the City’s strengths. They’ve named the strategy the #FindlayFormula and have seen success in partnering with private companies and foreign cities.

Jason Kenyon, Vice President of Wade Trim, presented an overview of the work on the Flint Riverfront Restoration Project, a similar initiative to our local Mahoning River Restoration efforts. By showing us how their project has rehabilitated their downtown and changed the narrative of their local river, it gives us an idea of how our own project will take shape as we make progress on the planned dam removals.

Lastly, before closing out the event, Eastgate invited Austintown Fitch High School senior, Maeson Green - who is the President of the Future Business Leaders of America, President of the Emerging Black Men of Society, plays on the football team, in the jazz band, and owns his own business - to give a few words of inspiration and his perspective on the opportunity that our region offers young people.
